LETTER: Vote like Dr. Seuss

To the editor:

Early voting for the general election starts Oct. 17. Below is an original  “poem” encouraging voting in Massachusetts. It is formatted like a Dr. Seuss poem and is written to be read aloud.

The Time Has Come

The time is close.
The day is nigh.
Time to VOTE, VOTE, VOTE
I don’t care why.

You can vote for change.
You can vote to stand pat.
Your vote is election-powered
Voter feedback!

In Massachusetts
In 2-0-2-6
John Q. Public
Time to make your picks.

You can vote in the primary
The first of September
And then in the general
The third of November.

Yes, it’s time for choice
Make the time to do it.
A vote is your voice!
So let’s get right to it.

But first check who’s running
At VOTE 4-1-1 dot org.
Compare their stands on questions
Find positions most like yours.

You can vote at the polls
Wearing light-up orange sneakers
Or at home on the couch
In your fuzzy pink slippers.

You can vote by mail
Or vote same day
Just VOTE, VOTE, VOTE
There are so many ways.

Online you can check
On your own registration
Your mail- in ballot’s status,
That’s important information!

You can find a box for ballot drops
You can vote early.
Or vote in person with the crowds
On election day, just hurry.

How you vote is private
It’s secret, who you pick
It’s counted that you voted
On your own clerk’s voter list.

But remember — be happy
Whether win or lose.
The most important part is
That you get to choose.

Because who represents you
Is the result of each election
So Jane Q. Public
Carefully make your selection.

You can bring to polls — some water
You can bring to polls — your list
You can bring to polls — your daughter
You can bring your neighbor, Chris.

So, citizens of Massachusetts
Let’s show the nation how
To VOTE, VOTE, VOTE
The time is NOW!
