The six candidates vying to be the Democratic party’s nominee in the Massachusetts’ 6th Congressional District race will face off at a candidates forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts in conjunction with the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus and the North Shore Juneteenth Association.
The event will be held Thursday, Aug. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Rantoul Vault Theater, 25 Exchange St., Lynn. The public is invited to attend in person and the event will be live streamed by Lynn Community TV and distributed to MHTV and community access media in the district. Check schedules.
The seat is vacant after U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton announced he would not run for re-election and instead challenge U.S. Sen. Edward Markey. A forum for Republicans is not being held as there is only one candidate — Micah Quinney Jones of Essex.
Running as Democrats in the state’s Sept. 1 state primary are Bethany Andres-Beck of Middleton, John Beccia of Lynnfield, Jamie Zahlaway Belsito of Topsfield, Dan Koh of Andover, Mariah Lancaster of Salem and Tram T. Nguyen of Andover.
Jason J. Galui, the head of the Center for Civic Participation at Endicott College in Beverly, will serve as moderator. Questions will be developed by the hosting organizations as well as solicited from the forum audience prior to the event.
Representatives of five local League of Women Voters chapters have served on the organizing committee. They are the League of Women Voters of Andover-North Andover, Cape Ann, Hamilton-Wenham, Marblehead and North Shore.
