Robert Goodwin of Marblehead, owner of the now defunct travel company Stone & Compass, pleaded guilty in a Florida courtroom to two counts of grand theft over $100,000 on June 18. He was sentenced to 25 years probation and ordered to pay $637,260 in restitution.

Last December, Goodwin was arrested in California after several months of being at large. He served 180 days in a Florida jail before entering the plea. He paid $194,000 in restitution upfront $97,000 to victims at Seabreeze High School in Daytona Beach and another $97,000 to Flagler College, according to the Florida State Attorney General’s Office.
In the spring of 2024, Stone & Compass abruptly canceled trips for hundreds of students and adults around the country, in some cases mere days before the trips were set to depart.
Stone & Compass’ start
Goodwin launched Stone & Compass in 2012. It largely focused on student travel, leading service trips to locations around the world, including Bulgaria where they had a center.
