Pride, puppies and planning … all in News in Brief

Want a say in town’s future? Check out this open house.
Imagine Marblehead 10 years from now. How would you describe what it looks like and what makes it special? What do you want to leave for the next generation? The town wants to know.

The town of Marblehead is in the process of updating one of the community’s most important guiding documents: The Comprehensive Master Plan. This plan does not create laws or zoning, but it does outline a strategic framework document that guides the future physical and economic development of a town or city based on the community’s vision and goals.

On Saturday, June 13, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., stop by Abbot Library for 15 minutes, learn about the process and share your vision. For more information, contact Brendan Callahan, director of community development and planning, at 781-631-1529 or callahanb@marbleheadma.gov.

Pride in town
The Marblehead Pride Committee brought a little more color to the Old & Historic District May 23, painting a rainbow bench at the corner of Washington and Pleasant streets.

“We wanted to honor LGBTQ residents — past, present and future,” said Nick Esposito of the committee.
Marblehead’s pride flag rising is June 14, 11 a.m., at Abbot Hall. It will be followed by a family-friendly pride party at Shubie’s noon-3 p.m.

Fun Run raises $31K for Brown School students
About 450 Brown School pre-kindergarten through third-grade students dressed in a rainbow of colors and raised more than $31,000 during the school community’s 10th annual Fun Run on May 21.
Wearing tie-dyed T-shirts, the kids, ages 3-10, celebrated fitness and school spirit. The fundraiser received donations from 22 states and countries around the world, as far away as Uruguay. Over the last decade, the Fun Run has raised $250,000.
All proceeds from the event will be used to fund the Brown School PTO. Funds enrich the student experience by supporting outdoor garden teaching programs, children’s book author visits, and events like the S.T.E.A.M. Fair, Book Fair, Monster Mash and Holiday Shop. The PTO also funds and organizes teacher appreciation efforts.
