LETTER: Why I support Fox for School Committee

To the editor,

I am writing to express my strong support for Sarah Fox for Marblehead School Committee.

Sarah has consistently demonstrated the kind of leadership our schools and community need: thoughtful, courageous and willing to make difficult decisions in the best interest of students and taxpayers alike.

At a time when Marblehead Public Schools struggled to maintain long-term leadership, Sarah played a critical role in negotiating and hiring Superintendent John Robidoux. Given that Mr. Robidoux is the 10th superintendent or interim superintendent since 2005, securing stable leadership was essential for our district’s future.

Sarah’s commitment to the community has not come without personal sacrifice. During her last School Committee campaign, she faced intense personal and professional scrutiny. She also endured significant criticism throughout the 2024 teacher strike. Despite the pressure, Sarah remained focused on finding a fair and responsible solution. She helped negotiate a teacher contract that respected educators while also recognizing the town’s ongoing budget challenges and protecting Marblehead taxpayers from deeper financial strain.

What stands out most about Sarah is her willingness to have difficult conversations and make tough decisions when necessary. She has been a fierce advocate for all students and has also shown meaningful leadership and allyship for Marblehead’s Jewish community in the wake of the Oct. 7 attacks and the troubling rise in antisemitism.

Sarah Fox understands that serving on the School Committee is not about politics or pleasing special interests. It is about protecting the welfare of our children, supporting strong schools, and ensuring accountability and stability for the entire community. She is not afraid to stand up to powerful interests, including teachers unions, when she believes it is necessary to serve the best interests of students.

Marblehead needs leaders with integrity, resilience and courage. Sarah Fox has proven she possesses all three, and I wholeheartedly support her candidacy for School Committee.

Sincerely,

Arielle Kingsbury
