LETTER: There are three School Committee candidates — support Clucas and Jordan

To the editor:

Contrary to what you might have read in another local newspaper, there are in fact three candidates running for two open seats on School Committee. On Tuesday, June 9, voters have the opportunity to elect two highly qualified candidates to the School Committee: Ann-Marie Jordan and Melissa Clucas.

Ann-Marie Jordan is a new face who brings the valuable perspective of an experienced educator. From her career in the Gloucester and Marblehead Public Schools, Ann-Marie understands the needs of students, teachers and families, including the complexities of special education. Her first-hand knowledge of public education will be a tremendous asset to both the school committee and the broader community.

Of equal value to Ann-Marie’s experience as an educator is the financial perspective Melissa Clucas brings to the school committee — that of a CFO with experience managing multi-billion-dollar budgets and working collaboratively with a team to deliver transparent, sustainable outcomes. This year we’ve seen the value of that experience firsthand in Melissa’s work on school committee. Over the course of this spring’s high-stakes budget challenges, she built trust between our schools and town leadership with a data-driven approach to decision making. Her financial expertise, transparency and thoughtful leadership has been a breath of fresh air.

Ann-Marie Jordan and Melissa Clucas offer the ideal balance of educational experience and financial expertise. Together they will strengthen the school committee’s collaborative skills. Join me in voting for Ann-Marie Jordan and Melissa Clucas on Tuesday, June 9..
