Peter Coffin Sartwell passed away peacefully on April 24.
Born in 1937 in Boston, Peter spent his formative years in Baltimore, where he developed a lifelong curiosity about the world around him, leading to his academic journey. He earned his bachelor of arts from the University of Maryland and later a doctorate in education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He went on to dedicate his professional life to higher education, ultimately serving as an associate dean at Suffolk University.

He also served honorably in the U.S. Army National Guard.
In his younger years, Peter enjoyed kayaking and boat building. He frequently explored the waters of Marblehead when visiting family. He had a lifelong appreciation for nature, capturing its beauty through photography, and was a committed environmentalist.
His sense of humor and robust storytelling were defining characteristics of his personality and brought a smile to many.
Peter is survived by his son, Stephen Sartwell of Melrose; his sister, Nancy Walker of Marblehead; his nieces, Amy Martin and her husband, David; Stephanie Jennings and her husband, John; and Allison Chader and her husband, Andrew; and seven grandnieces and grandnephews.
He will be remembered for his kindness, his love of nature, his curious spirit and the care he showed to others.
