This week, the School Committee will discuss whether to ask voters to fund a new roof for Marblehead High School. The latest estimate for the project is nearly $14 million.
Town Meeting in 2022 approved $5.3 million for the roof, but the project never happened. The roof leaks in several spots around the high school when it rains.

The School Committee’s facilities subcommittee will discuss the roof first at a virtual meeting Wednesday, 1 p.m.
Then on Thursday, 7 p.m., the full School Committee is expected to vote on a warrant article for this May’s Town Meeting for roof funding, according to the agenda. That meeting is at the MHS library and online.
Also at Thursday’s meeting, Assistant Superintendent Mike Pfiffering will deliver a financial update. The School Committee voted earlier this month to put two placeholder overrides on the Town Meeting warrant, in case they’re needed. One is meant “for the purposes of revenue to go directly to the school budget,” said School Committee Chair Jenn Schaeffner.
During the teachers strike in November, Schaeffner and Sarah Fox said the agreed-upon wage increases would require an override or layoffs. No one has put a dollar amount to an override proposal yet.
At Thursday’s meeting, the School Committee will also continue its discussion on new high school graduation requirements, now that passing the MCAS is no longer mandated.
Interim Superintendent John Robidoux, who announced at the last School Committee that he’d like to be named permanent super by July, is expected to deliver district updates.
