The JCC of the North Shore is screening “Barren” as part of its 10th annual Film Festival, with special guest speaker Beverly Nathan from Hadassah North Shore MA Chapter. The festival, which runs through May 24, features movies from around the world with a Jewish connection.
In “Barren,” a young and childless ultra-Orthodox couple faces a crisis after a traumatic treatment for infertility. When the difference between good and bad is unclear, the family must deal with unresolved secrets that raise fundamental questions about religion and faith. This beautifully photographed and impressively acted film presents ultra-Orthodox society as complex and multifaceted and presents characters movie-watchers will believe in and care about.
