UPDATE: School Committee cancels private session about acting super complaint

***This story has been updated with new information from acting Superintendent Michelle Cresta.

The School Committee has posted an amended agenda for its Thursday night meeting that cancels an executive (private) session about a complaint against acting Superintendent Michelle Cresta.

Cresta confirms that she has waived her right for the executive session and plans to discuss the complaint in public.

The agenda also now includes a “statement by chair” at the beginning of the meeting.

On Wednesday, Fox sent out a press release saying the School Committee scheduled the executive session after receiving a complaint from a mother of two students about an email Cresta sent to families after the Hamas attack on Israel.

Cresta’s email read, in part, “We stand with Israel and with Jewish people around the world.” She did not mention the people in Gaza who have been killed and injured.

Kristi Warab, whose children are Muslim, wrote in a letter to the editor, that she “would like to see an email from the school that stands with the right of every race and group of people and their right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, not just one group of people.”

Warab said her children are feeling bullied.

The School Committee meeting begins Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Marblehead High School library and on Zoom HERE.
