Summer children’s theatre program to perform ‘Matilda’

The North Shore Children’s Theatre and Theatre of Light, both based in Marblehead, are joining forces to present a one-week “Matilda” theatre program for children ages 6-13.

Designed for both newcomers and experienced young actors, participants will engage in rehearsals for the play and learn various acting techniques. The curriculum covers character development, stage speech, diction, comedic timing, and theatre strategies with an emphasis on teamwork and confidence building. The week culminates in a “Matilda” performance on Friday, Aug. 11, at 1 p.m.

Nicole Poirier, artistic director of North Shore Children’s Theatre, has crafted an original play adaptation of “Matilda,” inspired by Roald Dahl’s beloved tale. This rendition emphasizes the message that “every child is special.” Poirier is co-directing with Miriam Eyges, director of Theatre of Light.

The program runs from Monday, Aug. 7, through Friday, Aug. 11, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at North Shore Children’s Theatre’s main campus, 18 Prospect St.

The program is capped at 15 participants. For further details, contact 339-228-7663 or email theatreoflight@comcast.net.
