At 8:20 a.m. Sunday, the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, issued a tornado watch for several Massachusetts counties, including Essex County, which is in effect until 3 p.m.
In the 8 a.m. hour, a tornado warning had also been issued for the Dracut and Lowell area, which has since expired, though a tornado warning remained in effect for parts of New Hampshire after 9 a.m.
A flood watch also remains in effect for Essex County through late Sunday night.
