Marblehead laxmen perfecting their craft

Two more games, two more wins last week for the Marblehead High boys lacrosse team (8-0 in the Northeastern Conference, 10-0 overall). The Magicians defeated Beverly, 9-5 on May 8, and three days later they walloped Danvers to the tune of 16-4.

But like any good coach, John Wilkens is not satisfied with just the final result.

“We never trailed in this game, but it was certainly not our A-game either,” Wilkens said after the Beverly game. “It was all because of our poor shot selection. We just weren’t accurate with the ball.”

Connor Cronin paced the attack against the Panthers with four goals. Baxter Jennings had two scores. Carter Laramie chipped in with one goal and one assist. Charlie Grenier was credited with one goal and two assists. Reece Moore scored once.

Goalie Finn Maniaci did his part once again to produce another win with nine saves.

Against the Falcons, Cronin was once again the team’s top scorer with five goals and three assists. Laramie was close behind with five goals and two assists. Jennings had the hat trick.

Grenier and Moore ended up with one goal and two assists apiece. Jack Whipple accounted for one tally. Drew Nelson and J.J. Pollender each collected one assist.

Maniaci played three-quarters of the Danvers game and came up with seven saves. His freshman understudy Finn Gallup played the remaining few minutes of the game and was credited with two stops.

After taking on host Gloucester on May 8, the Magicians were set to return home to host non-league Bedford, New Hampshire on May 10 at Piper Field, followed by Peabody two days later. Both games will begin at 4:30 p.m.
