Head of School Peter Cohen at the Marblehead Community Charter Public School has been suspended with pay over an “adult allegation of misconduct” against him, according to the school’s board of trustees.
“The Board takes allegations of this nature very seriously and following a review of the information available to us, we have decided to conduct a thorough investigation of the complaint to understand the situation fully,” wrote MCCPS Board Chair Tim Wadlow in an email to parents.
“On the guidance of the school’s legal counsel, while these investigations are underway, we have decided that the MCCPS Head of School, Dr. Peter Cohen, will be suspended with pay and will not be at work,” Wadlow added.
Assistant Head of School Stephanie Brant will assume Cohen’s responsibilities.
Cohen became Charter’s Head of School in 2019, after working as a principal in Nantucket and Westford.
His biography on Charter’s website reads, “At MCCPS Dr. Cohen has restructured the leadership team, finalized the strategic plan and led the school through the crisis of education in the time of a pandemic.”
MCCPS, at 17 Lime St., opened in 1995 and serves children in grades 4-8.
The MCCPS Board of Trustees met Tuesday evening. This is a developing story. Stay with the Current for late details.
