OBITUARY: David E. Caswell, 66

On Nov. 3, 2022, after a courageous battle due to a cancer diagnosis, David E. Caswell closed his eyes here on earth and opened them in the presence of Jesus. He was 66.

David E. Caswell

David was born in Salem, Massachusetts, on June 6, 1956, the only child of the late David W. (a Navy veteran) and Julia K. (Kaelin) Caswell. He grew up in Marblehead in an era when boys waded in swamps and caught frogs and snakes to scare the girls. Living on the ocean called for fishing, lobstering and waterskiing. After high school, he moved to Oakland, California, and began a hydraulic technology career that was very rewarding to him. Riding his motorcycle all over the West Coast was reminisced often.

David loved World War II history, and whenever he would meet a veteran, by the end of the conversation they would be comrades. He had extensive military knowledge in tactical and weapon combat.

Eventually he came back to his roots in New England and met and married Nancy Oliver from Rockport, Massachusetts. Together, they moved to Jaffrey. They had lived in their 1801 brick homestead, previously known as the Deschenes Farm, for 16 years.

After his retirement from the Jaffrey public schools, he went to work in the guard shack at Belletete’s in Jaffrey. His co-workers became his Belletete’s family. He loved visiting with all the customers and their beloved canines. David was an active member of Renew Church in Hancock, New Hampshire.

David was predeceased by both of his parents.

He will be forever missed by his wife of 22 years, Nancy; his son, Michael Caswell, and his wife, Allison, of Concord, New Hamphire; his daughter, Elizabeth Caswell, and her husband, Phil, of Nashua, New Hampshire; his stepson, Andrew Wancheck, and his wife, Jamelih, of Texas; and his stepdaughter, Leanne Wancheck, of Merrimac, Massachusetts; as well as seven grandchildren, and many cousins and close friends.

Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Cournoyer Funeral Home, 33 River St., Jaffrey, New Hampshire 03452.

David’s burial will be held privately at a later date. His final resting place will be in his hometown of Marblehead.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in David’s name to the Jaffrey War Memorial Park, c/o Jaffrey War Memorial Committee, P.O. Box 565, Jaffrey, NH 03452.
