Marblehead Dollars for Scholars to mark 35th anniversary with Summer Garden Celebration

Thirty-five years ago, a group of concerned citizens and representatives from the public school system established a non-profit organization to provide financial need-based assistance to Marblehead students pursuing a college education.

Since its inception in 1987, Marblehead Dollars for Scholars has distributed more than 1,700 awards totaling nearly $4 million.

In recognition of its 35th anniversary, the local non-profit organization will hold a Summer Garden Celebration on Sunday, Aug. 14 from 5-7:30 p.m. in the beautiful gardens of Helaine and Jim Hazlett.

The evening will feature summer dinner stations and libations, a VIP reception hosted by legendary WBZ Radio reporter Carl Stevens and a live auction with adventurous items to bid on.

Different levels of sponsorship opportunities are available as are individual tickets that may be purchased at https://marblehead.dollarsforscholars.org.

Marblehead Dollars for Scholars President Karen Pierce said the 35th anniversary celebration gives board members, the community and donors an occasion to reflect on the group’s many accomplishments, while also raising funds to continue that work.

“Over the past 35 years, we’ve adapted and grown with the times, meeting every challenge as it unfolds,” Pierce explained. “With that resiliency and resolve, we will continue our mission of providing financial need-based scholarships to deserving students from Marblehead High School and town residents.”
